Outdoor Newborn Session at Garrard Landing Park | Atlanta Newborn Photographer

Lifestyle newborn session at Garrard Landing Park with baby boy and family

When most people think of newborn photography, they picture cozy, in-home sessions with soft blankets and natural light—and that’s exactly what I specialize in as an Atlanta newborn photographer.

But every now and then, a family wants something a little different.

This sweet family chose to celebrate their baby with an outdoor newborn session at Garrard Landing Park, and it turned out to be such a beautiful and meaningful experience.

A Beautiful Day for a Newborn Session

We couldn’t have asked for better conditions. The weather was mild, the light was soft, and everything about the session felt calm and relaxed—exactly what you want when photographing a brand new baby.

While I photograph most sessions in-home, outdoor newborn sessions can be just as special when they’re thoughtfully planned.

Why Garrard Landing Park is Perfect for Portrait Sessions

Garrard Landing Park is one of my favorite locations in the Roswell/Atlanta area because of how much variety it offers without requiring a lot of walking.

Some of my favorite features include:

  • A charming covered bridge
  • Peaceful water streams and creek areas
  • Open fields with soft, glowing light
  • Tree-lined paths that add depth and texture

This makes it a beautiful option for:

  • Maternity sessions
  • Family sessions
  • And even newborn sessions, like this one

If you’re planning ahead, maternity sessions pair beautifully with newborn sessions:

Is Garrard Landing Park Good for Newborn Photography?

Short answer: yes—with a few important considerations.

As an Atlanta newborn photographer, I typically recommend in-home sessions for comfort and flexibility. However, for families who love nature and want something unique, this location can be a great fit.

Pros:

  • Variety of backdrops in one location
  • Beautiful natural light throughout the day
  • Easy access (no long hikes)

Cons:

  • It can get very crowded—especially during senior photography season and in the fall when families are booking holiday photos
  • Less privacy, which can make sessions feel less intimate
  • Requires more planning around timing and baby’s needs

Choosing the right time of day (like weekday mornings or evenings) can make a huge difference in your experience.

A Note for Photographers: Permits Required

If you’re a photographer planning to shoot here, you’ll need a permit through the City of Roswell:

Planning Your Newborn or Maternity Session

Whether you’re dreaming of a cozy, in-home session or something outdoors like this, the most important thing is choosing a setting that feels natural and comfortable for your family.

As an Atlanta newborn photographer, I guide families through every step—from timing and styling to choosing the perfect location.

  • Newborn sessions are best within the first few weeks after baby arrives
  • Maternity sessions are ideal around 32–36 weeks

Many families choose to book both to document this entire season of life.
