Feldwood Farms: The Kind of Summer I Want My Children to Remember

Peaceful family day spent blueberry picking and enjoying nature at Feldwood Farms.

When people ask me for recommendations on things to do with kids around Atlanta, they’re usually expecting a list of attractions, activities, and entertainment. And while there is certainly no shortage of those, what I’m often searching for is something much simpler.

Over the years, we’ve visited farms all across Georgia, but when it comes to blueberry picking near Atlanta, Feldwood Farms has become one of our favorite summer traditions.

Summers Growing Up in Lithuania

I grew up in Lithuania, and some of my favorite childhood memories happened outdoors.

I was outside from dawn until dusk. I remember hearing my mom call my name from the window when it was time to come inside for lunch, a nap, or bedtime. We planted vegetables, picked fruit, and spent endless hours in the garden. At the time, I didn’t always appreciate it—especially when it came to weeding—but looking back, those are some of the memories that make me smile the most.

Why Outdoor Childhood Memories Matter So Much

Every summer, I try to take my boys back to Lithuania for an extended visit. Nothing warms my heart more than watching them run barefoot through my grandmother’s garden, picking raspberries, cherries, and plums straight from the trees. My grandmother may be gone, but summers at her house still live on in my heart, and now, through my children, those memories continue.

Searching for Simplicity Near Atlanta

Maybe that’s why I’ve struggled to find the same feeling here in Atlanta.

Don’t get me wrong—there are plenty of wonderful family activities. We’ve gone apple picking, berry picking, and visited farms all over Georgia. But so many places have become heavily commercialized. What starts as a simple outdoor outing often turns into admission fees, activity packages, bounce pads, petting zoos, gift shops, snacks, lunches, and endless add-ons.

With three boys, a day in nature can quickly turn into a surprisingly expensive production.

But honestly, it’s not even about the money.

What I miss is the quiet.

I miss places where children can simply be children.

I miss places where you can hear birds instead of loudspeakers.

I miss places where families can slow down for a few hours and step away from the constant rush of everyday life.

Learning to Appreciate the Quiet

As a child, we spent nearly every summer weekend camping by a lake. My dad was a mechanic, and every Friday he would say the same thing:

“I just want to get away from the garage noise.”

As a kid, I used to laugh and roll my eyes.

Now I understand exactly what he meant.

Life is busy. Parenting is busy. Work is busy. Some days feel like you’re running on a hamster wheel—always moving, always rushing, yet somehow never fully caught up.

Sometimes what we need most isn’t another activity.

We need peace and quiet.

Why We Love Feldwood Farms

And that’s exactly why I love Feldwood Farms.

Nestled away from the crowds, Feldwood Farms feels like a hidden gem. There are no elaborate attractions competing for your attention. No overwhelming crowds. No constant noise.

Just rows and rows of blueberry bushes stretching across the property.

Just children filling buckets.

Just families walking slowly through the fields.

Just nature.

The blueberries are plentiful, the setting is beautiful, and the atmosphere is incredibly peaceful. It’s the kind of place where you can take a deep breath and feel your shoulders relax.

My boys were able to wander, explore, and pick berries without me constantly worrying about losing sight of them in a crowd. We spent our time talking, picking, snacking on blueberries straight from the bushes, and simply enjoying being together.

It reminded me of the summers I grew up with.

The simple ones.

The memorable ones.

The ones that don’t require entertainment around every corner.

A Peaceful Option for Blueberry Picking Near Atlanta

I almost hesitate to write about places like Feldwood Farms because part of me selfishly wants them to stay exactly as they are—quiet, local, and uncomplicated.

But local family-owned farms need support, and places like this are becoming harder to find.

So if you’re looking for a family-friendly summer activity near Atlanta and you’re craving something slower, simpler, and more meaningful than another crowded attraction, I wholeheartedly recommend a visit.

Bring water.

Bring sunscreen.

Leave your schedule behind for a few hours.

The blueberries will be waiting.

And if you’re lucky, you might leave with more than just berries.

You might leave with the kind of summer memory that stays with you for years.

What Makes Feldwood Farms Different

There are plenty of places to pick berries near Atlanta, but what makes Feldwood Farms special is what it doesn’t have.

No loud attractions.

No endless lines.

No pressure to buy activity packages.

No feeling that you’re spending the day at a theme park disguised as a farm.

Instead, you’ll find a peaceful family-owned farm where children can explore, pick blueberries, and enjoy being outdoors. It’s one of the few places around Atlanta where I truly feel like we can slow down and simply enjoy nature.

Is Feldwood Farms Good for Toddlers?

Absolutely.

I’ve been bringing my boys here since they were babies. When my twins were younger, I regularly pushed our double stroller through the blueberry rows without any issues.

The farm is easy to navigate, and because it isn’t crowded with attractions and large groups, I find it much less stressful than many other family destinations.

Toddlers love searching for ripe blueberries and filling their buckets. Even the youngest visitors can participate and feel proud of their harvest.

If you’re looking for blueberry picking near Atlanta that’s simple, peaceful, and family-friendly, Feldwood Farms is worth a visit.
