One of the things I loved most during those early newborn days with my first was getting outside for walks.
I still remember loading up the stroller, clipping on leashes for my two boxer dogs, grabbing coffee, and heading out with no real plan besides fresh air and movement. Some days the walk was quick before the next feeding, and other days it turned into our whole morning. Those little outings became such a grounding part of postpartum for me.
If you’re in the newborn season right now and looking for places to get out of the house with your baby—whether it’s for fresh air, a stroller nap, or simply a change of scenery—these are some of my favorite baby-friendly places to walk around Atlanta.
Living in Midtown at the time, Piedmont Park was our go-to.
It’s one of my favorite places in Atlanta for a stroller walk with a baby. The paved paths make it easy to navigate with a stroller, and there’s enough space that you can do a quick loop or stay out for a long walk depending on everyone’s mood that day.
I loved walking around Lake Clara Meer, people watching, and finding a shady bench when I needed a pause. It always felt energizing without feeling overwhelming.
The Atlanta BeltLine was another regular for us when we lived in Midtown.
It’s especially nice if you want your walk to feel a little more like an outing—grab a coffee, walk for a while, stop for lunch, then head back home before nap time.
I always liked that it felt easy and flexible. If baby was asleep in the stroller, we’d keep going. If not, we could stop whenever we needed.
Lenox Park is one of my favorite baby-friendly walks in Atlanta when I’m looking for something quieter and less crowded.
Less crowded than some of the bigger Atlanta parks, with beautiful paved walking paths around the water. It’s peaceful, stroller-friendly, and a great option if you’re looking for something calm without a ton of activity happening around you.
Mason Mill Park is another beautiful spot for a walk with a baby.
The trails and boardwalk are gorgeous, especially if you like being surrounded by trees. My only challenge here was that my boxer dogs would sometimes get spooked by the sound of bikes coming across the wooden boardwalk—the rattling boards would catch them off guard every time.
Still such a lovely place for a stroller walk, especially if you want more of a nature feel.
Grant Park is such a great option, especially on warmer days.
I always loved how many shaded areas there are throughout the park. There are so many different pathways to wander through, and it feels easy to slow down and just enjoy being outside without needing a destination.
Once my little one got older and was walking more independently, Garrard Landing Park became one of our favorite spots.
It’s beautiful year-round and such a fun place for toddlers to explore. The open space and trails make it feel adventurous while still being easy enough for little legs.
It’s also one of my favorite locations for family and maternity portraits because of the natural scenery and light. You can read more about photographing sessions at Garrard Landing here.
Those early walks with a newborn hold such a special place in my heart.
Between the feeding schedules, the sleepless nights, and adjusting to a brand-new rhythm, getting outside always helped me feel a little more like myself again. Sometimes it was just 20 minutes around the park while baby slept in the stroller. Sometimes it became our entire morning.
Either way, those simple moments ended up becoming some of my favorite memories from early motherhood.
Whether you’re heading out for a stroller nap walk or just need fresh air, I hope these baby-friendly walks in Atlanta help you find a spot you love.
