Fresh 48 sessions are all about documenting those first hours with your baby exactly as they are — the fresh newborn details, the emotions, the quiet moments in the hospital room, and the beginning of this new chapter for your family.
Unlike a traditional newborn session, Fresh 48 photography is not focused on elaborate posing or heavily styled setups. These sessions are more documentary in nature and centered around connection, emotion, and preserving the experience as it naturally unfolds.
As an Atlanta Fresh 48 photographer, my approach is simple, relaxed, and minimally posed so you can focus on your baby while I gently document everything around you.
Fresh 48 sessions are very limited because photographers have to remain on call around your due date.
I recommend booking during your second trimester whenever possible to ensure availability.
Since babies rarely arrive exactly on schedule, communication is very important. If your due date changes or if you unexpectedly go into labor early, let your photographer know as soon as possible so they can begin adjusting their schedule.
If labor starts unexpectedly, I always encourage families to send a quick text on the way to the hospital. Once baby arrives, you’ll confirm again after delivery so we can finalize timing for your session.
Most Fresh 48 sessions take place the following morning after birth, depending on delivery timing and how everyone is feeling.
I photograph Fresh 48 sessions throughout the Atlanta area, including hospitals like Northside Hospital, Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, and Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.
Fresh 48 sessions are intentionally calm, simple, and low-pressure.
I know you are recovering, exhausted, emotional, and adjusting to life with a brand new baby. My goal is always to be respectful of your time and energy while still documenting these moments honestly and beautifully.
Sessions are usually fairly quick and relaxed, though you should still plan around an hour overall.
There is no pressure for everything to look perfect.
The hospital room does not need to be spotless.
You do not need professional hair and makeup.
Your baby does not need elaborate outfits or props.
Some of my favorite images are actually the simplest ones.
Every photographer approaches Fresh 48 sessions differently, but I personally love capturing the real essence of those first hours in a natural, documentary-inspired way.
That means:
I especially love photographing babies in their hospital swaddles and tiny hospital hats because those details become incredibly meaningful later on.
If you would like to bring a simple outfit change for baby, that is completely fine, but I always recommend keeping props and styling minimal so the focus stays on your baby and your connection as a family.
Fresh 48 photography is about preserving the details and emotions you never want to forget:
These sessions are not heavily directed or scripted.
They are emotional, honest, and centered around documenting your family exactly as you are in those first hours together.
If you are expecting and would love to document those first hours with your baby in a natural and meaningful way, I would love to chat with you about a Fresh 48 session.
Because availability is limited due to on-call scheduling, I recommend reaching out during your second trimester whenever possible.
And if you feel a more relaxed in-home experience may fit your family better, you can also explore my newborn photography sessions to see which approach feels right for you.
